Sustainable Innovation & Digitalization
Reaching climate-neutral economies and societies in a just and equitable way requires innovation of both technological and social systems. The digital transformation offers an opportunity to accelerate the environmental transition but also create challenges to economic and energy systems.
Our work
We rely on an extensive toolbox of empirical methods - including econometric analysis, expert elicitations, big data analytics, systematic review methods and structured qualitative case studies. We explore the determinants of sustainable innovation, the design of innovation policies, the role of digitalization in the development and diffusion on environmental-friendly technologies. We examine the repercussions of innovative systems on social and economic outcomes, including distributional and equity issues. We use this empirical knowledge to generate scenarios of future technological innovation and to evaluate policies to ensure they will lead to more prosperous and resilient societies
